Divorce

I think if you are reading the newsfeeds at the moment and keep on top of events in the world you can’t have missed Adele releasing her new album and saying that she divorced her husband and risked damaging the wellbeing of her child because she wanted to put her own happiness first.

There are so many things that you can say about this. I am an Adele fan. She has the most amazing voice and I do love her songs. But having such a talent comes with its costs. I don’t know what kind of world she lives in and what the people who surround her are like. Unfortunately fame, talent and wealth comes with its price. I imagine you can become quite disconnected with normal life and influenced without a moral compass to keep you on the right track and know what is a good and bad decision.

Deciding to divorce someone is a very serious decision with far reaching effects on all of the people involved in that relationship, especially the children. Unfortunately some marriages are so bad it is hard to sustain them. However, for the sake of the children, if a marriage can be saved then every effort should be made to do so. The damage it inflicts on children is enormous.

I love my sons very much and have probably put their happiness before mine too much. I can’t bear to see them unhappy and would do anything to not be the cause of any of that unhappiness.

I don’t think putting your own happiness first will ever make you happy. It is quite the opposite. The greatest joy you can have in this world is giving happiness to others.

I hope that her example is not followed just because she is a great singer/songwriter, but such is celebrity culture at the moment, some people might think this is a good way to live. It isn’t.

As a believer, I know that true happiness can only be found in God.

God bless,
