Post Truth/Post Honest Society

It is a sad fact that we are now living in a society where telling lies and being dishonest seems to be the ‘norm’. Even when found out, it is just seen as something that happens nowadays and society seems to accept that this is baseline behaviour. Being truthful and honest is not as highly regarded as it was and you are probably in the minority if you are.

I don’t know how this all started and whether the internet hasn’t helped. A lot of lies are spread through this and cheating people out of their money is something that is happening all of the time and we have to be very wary. I look at the news and wonder if we are being told the truth: how can you believe politicians if they are constantly being caught out in lies and think nothing of using their positions to make money in ways that don’t bear scrutiny.

It is so easy to go with the flow and think that if everyone is doing this, then it’s okay; but it isn’t. There are many passages in the Bible dealing with dishonesty and lies and we are warned that this behaviour affects our relationship with God. I can’t believe that someone who lives a life this way can be comfortable with it ultimately; all sins will catch us out in the end. Our consciences should be ringing alarm bells and if they aren’t, then that is because we have journeyed far away from our God and need to repent and turn back to the righteous path he has made for us.

God bless you and may you fight against all temptation to lie and deceive others,

Zephaniah 3:13

They will do no wrong; they will tell no lies. A deceitful tongue will not be found in their mouths. They will eat and lie down and no one will make them afraid.”
